Ephesians 6:1-9

Walk Like an Ephesian

This story is about someone called Deloris, a performer in Reno who witnesses a murder and is taken in protective custody until the trial.

We’re having to jump about slightly this week as Gareth and I have swapped our weeks around.  So although last week Gareth did the first half of Chapter 5, he’s going to finish that off next week.  Today we’re going to walk through the first half of chapter 6.  So lets read that and go from there.

Ephesians 6:1-9

When I read a passage like this I do enjoy looking at the language used.  Is there any pattern, unusual words, alternative translations for example.  There is one I found which I thought was interesting which is that the word “Fathers” at the start of verse 4 can be translated as Parents, so, although the common use of the word is Father, the grammatical structure of the sentence does lend itself to be translated “Parents”.

Ephesians 5: 1 – 21

Here are the questions for this week’s Union Groups, if you want to listen again to the talk go to http://guvc.org.uk/eph5

Walk Like an Ephesian

1. How acceptable should the “immoral” behaviour be (in us and in others), mentioned in the first part of the passage?

2. If we are “in Christ”, we are “light”. What characteristics should we display if we are “light”?

3. How does it change our attitude towards people when we view “the darkness” as the issues (sexual immorality, bitterness, rage) rather than the people?

4. How much influence does the Spirit have on your day to day life? What can you put in place to encourage more influence of the Spirit?

Discuss!!
